DJHeadlines.com - THE THURSDAY QUESTIONS WITH...Lonny Tyler [of WLLI-FM 96.7]
When/where were you born?
February 25, 1969. Right here in Joliet.
Are you married/single?
Married to my best friend in the world, my partner, teammate and the hottest person on the planet, my wife Joanna.
Do you have any pets?
Yup. A Beagle/Lab. Named Sammy (after Sammy Hagar, but my wife spells it with an "i" and not a "y"). The coolest cat in the world - Kato. Named after Kato the houseboy from the Pink Panther movies. Because he kinda creeps up on ya and attacks you like Kato in the movies. It's all in fun.
Do you have any favorite hobbies?
Absolutely! I race midget/sprint cars. If you don't know what they are, the picture up top shows ya. I won Rookie of the Year in 2002! It's very dangerous, but one of the biggest rushes ever. Check it out at www.umara.com. I also love to cook. Got the cooking bug from my Italian grandfather. I've got the very old world vibe, entertaining company at the house is always my thing.
What was your first radio gig?
Shadow Traffic as a driver (when they had them). All I did was drive around and report on traffic problems. Then moved to the studio's and started being a full time traffic reporter on WLS for way too long. They never hired me for a show. They don't know what they missed. (Just kidding)
What CDs do you have in your car/home CD player right now?
Tonic - Lemon Parade, Frank Sinatra, Train (my wife's choice), Sevendust - Home, David Coverdale - Into The Light.
What's something that most people might not know about you?
That I love Frank Sinatra! I love that whole era. The Rat Pack was the coolest men's club on the planet. I would have loved to be around at that time in history. They just had a "we don't care about anything but having fun, so let's tear it up" vibe.
Who's the one famous person you'd like to meet?
I'd love to have a big 'ol party with the Rat Pack down at the Cabo Wabo with Sammy Hagar.
When/where can people hear you?
Afternoon's from 2-7 on 96.7 Will Rock.
What's your dream job in radio?
I had my dream job. Working with Roe & Garry along with Jim [Johnson]. It was the most fun I've had in my career. It's a bummer that my time there ended so quickly. I miss it everyday. Also, doing morning's on Will Rock. Miss that a bunch too.
Who is/are the broadcaster(s) you most admire in town and why?
He's not in town anymore, but Jonathon Brandmeier. He was just being a normal guy on the air and was just having fun every single day. Also, Garry Meier. He's one of the most quick witted guys on the air. You gotta be on your game when you're on with him.
If you weren't in radio, what would you be doing?
I'd probably be a History professor at a college or racing cars.
Would you rather be unable to stand up for yourself OR never know when to back down?
Well...after drinking 3 Cabo Wabo Waboritas in an hour I wasn't able to stand up for myself. So, that's been done. So, I guess never back down.
Yeah. Thanks to all of the people that I've had a chance to work with in this business. I don't want to name all of them because I'd miss some. I learned something from each one of you and I'm totally grateful.
Can I thank my race sponsors?? Hell...I'm gonna anyway. 96.7 Will Rock, EchoImage Web Development, Carr Concrete, Loma Communications, Michelle Carr - Realtor with Coldwell-Banker Honig-Bell, Advent Auto Body, Corsetti Structural Steel, Plainfield Signs, and J. Besch Welding & Fabrication.
You too Drew! It's a great website! I wish you the best of luck!
