DJHeadlines.com - THE THURSDAY QUESTIONS WITH...Matt Dubiel [of WLLI-FM 96.7]

When/where were you born?
I was born back in the 70's in Hinsdale, IL. Hinsdale is a dry town you know.

Are you single/married?
I am married and have brand new baby boy.

Do you have any pets?
2 Beagles: Stewart & Bailey.

Do you have any favorite hobbies?
I am a world class turkey caller and I dabble a bit in Canadian Origami, which is also the name of my Weezer Tribute band...another one of my hobbies.

What was your first radio gig?
My first paycheck in radio was for filling in for the technical producer on The Wendy & Bill Show on Q101. My first on air job was Sunday nights at WDEK before it was part of the Big City triangle.

What CD do you have in your car/home CD player right now?
I work in suburban radio, so I can't really afford a car, let alone a CD player. But sometimes when I am chauffeuring my family around in our rickshaw, I pretend to be listening to books on tape, like Chicken Soup for the Soul of the Illiterate Rapist Boxer by Mike Tyson, or Think and Grow Taller: A Life Guide for Short Men by Danny Devito.

What's something that most people might not know about you?
I slept my way to the top of suburban radio.

Who's the one famous person you'd like to meet?
It's a tie between Hervé Villechaize (Tattoo from Fantasy Island) and Calvin Brodus (a.k.a. Snoop Doggy Dog).

When/where can people hear/see you?
Afternoons from 2-7 on 96-7 Will Rock. I also image 96-7 Will Rock and our sister station 1340 WJOL and sometimes I give tours of Joliet in my Rickshaw - if you would like details on tour information, call 1-800-FAT-SHAW.[Editor's Note: as of 2003, Matt is no longer at WLLI-FM.]

If you weren't in radio, what would you be doing?
I would probably be a slum-lord, or a Mafia Kingpin, or a game show host - that is if the whole porno thing didn't work out.

If you could change ANYTHING in radio today, what would it be?
I would like to see the human element brought back into radio. I would love it if Program Directors would return phone calls. I think it would be great if the Town Elders of Footloose who control radio would stop bitching about a "shallow talent pool", and start mentoring and cultivating talent. But mostly, it would just be nice not to have to pan handle for spare change.

Where do you want to be in 5 years?
Well, 5 years ago I would have written a long diatribe on how I wanted be the next Johnny B. But I don't know if I am that talented, or talented at all..and as I have begun to mature, just a smidge...I have realized that all I can hope to be, is the best ME I can be, whether or not it is in radio, as a husband, a father, or as a panhandler. Everyday I consider getting out of radio, in favor of a more lucrative career in spot welding...sometimes I consider opening up my own crochet apparel "boutique"...I have even contemplated panhandling FULLTIME. But I don't want to give up on this radio dream just yet...and maybe it is just a "dream"...but I've got too much to say. Like, "that was Korn", or.."here is south west suburban traffic"...Yeah...I have just got too much to say.

Would you rather have to PEE sitting down OR always have to enter/leave a room walking BACKWARDS?
This one is a no brainer. I already pee sitting down. Does that make me gay?

Anything else?
Oh, no...thanks...I'm full.
